The Hay family live at Devon North which is a small rural residential area just outside Yarram in East Gippsland, Victoria Australia. We haved lived here since Christmas 1997 after being transferred from Tasmania by Glen's work. Devon North is a very good farming area which mostly support dairy herds and the entire district around Yarram is farming of one variety or another. It is 225 km or about 2.5 hours from Melbourne.

The Navy Transmitting Station was the former Omega Navigation Facility which was owned and operated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority as part of a worldwide navigation system coordinated by the United States Coast Guard. The Omega system was superceded and closed in September 1997. The facility was then sold to the Royal Australian Navy and converted to broadcast data signals to the Navy's fleet. The transmitting station broadcasts in the Very Low Frequency band at a power of 150 KiloWatts and has the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere at 427m high.

Glen was born in Smithton on the North-West coast of Tasmania and educated at Smithton High School. He moved to Hobart in 1973 to take up an apprenticeship with the Postmaster General's department which was eventually to become Telstra Corporation. After a 20 year career with Telstra from Apprentice Telecommunications Tradesman to Senior Technical Officer Grade 2, Glen took a redundancy package. In the following two years he performed a number of part time positions, at the same time building a house at Forcett. The house was completed in 1995. About the same time he commenced work with AMSA at their Glenorchy depot as the workshop supervisor. In April 1997 Glen took up a temporary transfer to the Omega Navigation Facility in Victoria to manage the final months of it's operation and then close it and dispose of it. As the facility was sold Glen will be resident in Gippsland for the foreseeable future.
Lynette was born in Huonville in Southern Tasmania and educated at Huonville High School. She moved to Hobart in 1974 and took up a job as an office assistant with a plumbing business which lasted two years. Lynette then worked for seven years with Tasmania's Parks and Wildlife Service at Risdon Cove, the site of Tasmania's first settlement. Her next job was with Woolworth's supermarkets and lasted 10 years until she left to move to Victoria. Lynette has chosen not to work at the moment but is using her time for activities in support of the schools and the community.
Emma was born in Hobart in 1987 and commenced school at Sorell District School in Tasmania and remained there until year 5. Year 6 was spent at
Yarram Primary School and she is now in Year 7 at Yarram Secondary College.Amy was born in Hobart in 1989 and commenced school at Sorell District School until year 2. She is now in Year 4 at
Yarram Primary School.![]()
Glen is an active member of the Rotary Club of Yarram which meets for dinner weekly on Wednesdays. The Rotary Club performs community service work and fund raising ventures to allow financial assistance to community causes.
Glen is an elected member of the School Council at the Yarram Primary School. The council is the school's governing body and Glen serves on the finance committee.
Sailing a 14' Windrush catamaran with the Port Albert Yacht Club is one of Glen's leisure pursuits. The yacht club is situated on the very tidal waters of Port Albert and the ability to sail in confined conditions is a must. The club holds a series of races on most Sundays from October until April as well as some combined events with other clubs.
This is the second year Glen has performed with the Tarra Taras which is the local amateur theatrical group with a bent for Gilbert and Sullivan. Last year they staged Trial by Jury and this year it is a variety show of song and melodrama.
Lynette has competed in a badminton competition throughout the last summer and has enjoyed it greatly. She also enjoys walking or cycling around the local area which is ideal as it very flat.
Emma and Amy are receiving coaching in badminton and are playing competition each week within their age groups.
Amy trains with the Yarram Gymnasts one night each week after school.
